Evelyn Keryova (BA, MA)

Evelyn has a background in journalism and media and she is currently enrolled as a full time PhD student at University of Sussex, where she is researching YouTube influencers and their impact on children and young people. She is specifically exploring critical thinking of young people who are active users of YouTube.

She studied BA journalism and media at Middlesex University London, where she also supervised media and journalism dissertations and creative projects related to social media and digital media production at faculty of Arts and Creative industries.

 

She holds an MA degree in investigative journalism at City University London and she is currently working as a deputy production editor for Guardian's Daily. Her articles were previously published at The Times, Odviati, The Positive or FutureRising. She was also working on Broadcasting Today with Kurt Barling where she interviewed then BBC editor Robert Peston and co-produced shows with Reeta Chakrabarti, Julian Joseph and Suzanne Moore.

Her BA dissertation titled "Lack of women presenters over the age of 50 in news and current affairs" was looking at the lack of women presenters at BBC as a result of ageism and sexism in television. Her MA project was an investigative feature that focused on Czech and Slovak recruitment and letting agencies in London. Her current research interests include the study of digital media, current role of traditional media in the digital age, social media, everyday digital childhoods and participatory digital methods.

She was a founder of Euron magazine, a platform for Europeans in London and co-founded V4 UK Platform, non-governmental organisation related to Visegrad region in the UK.
