‘When you write a book you can see it just through your eyes’
April 01, 2013
Today’s host was Abimbola Dare who spoke about how to self-publish books. She herself is a self- publisher who writes Christian fiction. She sold more than 4000 books in the USA and her books are becoming very popular. She did not want to start in the UK because she thinks that Christian fiction still does not have a big audience there.
She explained what a hard–working self-publisher needs to have if they do not want to pay a lot of money to different agencies and publishers. If people want to start, they can do it right now. People are still afraid to do something, but if there is a potential, they can do it for free. She gave us her advice, not to let the parents read the piece because they will never tell us the truth about it. “Not to use Amazon covers” was another advice which can be very useful for beginners in self-publishing industry. If we really want to break through as a successful published writer, there are professional critique companies or individuals who will tell us for a little money about the style, words, content etc, whose advice we should really take on board. Then we will need to have another critique (not a professional one) who will tell us his opinion about our piece, but again, it definitely should not be our relative.
Abimbola Dare gave us a motivation to do something and publish on Amazon even one chapter from our book or just a short story and sell it for 99 p. Then we will see if people like our pieces and way of writing.
Maybe one day we will be famous and our book will be as good as Fifty Shades of Grey which was also self-published.
